Gimmick or Not; Silicone “Sponge”

Silicone Sponge

I may have shared with you guys my love for Youtube Makeup Gurus. Watching their talent is something I could do for hours on end. I have done it hours on end. Seeing them bring their ideas and inspirations to life is so incredible. In watching their videos, I find things I want to try or have to have. It DOES cause me to spend a lot of money but, That’s okay right? We’ll call it retail therapy. A few months ago the trend was the Silicone Sponge, aka Silisponge. I even saw youtubers partaking in challenges of using a silicone bra inserts to apply makeup too. Okay, it got a little bit out of hand but, I still wanted to give it a shot. I thought this might be a gimmick but at the same time I feel I may have thought that same thing over a $20 Beauty Blender when they first started becoming popular too. Granted, I wasn’t spending $20 on this silicone sponge applicator. I found and purchased one too.

Silicone Sponge First Impressions

Silicone SpongeFirst Thought: Impressed

Not going to lie, I was really, really impressed with the application. It looked smooth. At first, I felt it was a little bit bulky ( ironically ) compared to the beauty sponge. Being flat instead of rounded it took a second to adjust. I used my no makeup makeup routine.  The end result of the application was very pretty. Blending out concealer and foundation was super easy.

Lack of Control

I had watched the videos and they said they didn’t absorb product ( obviously ) like a beauty sponge did. It was really easy to apply the product to my face. However, the runnier products were harder to control than the thicker foundations I use. A few of my foundations are a little thicker in consistency than others and the thinner formulas seemed to slip in a sense.

Blending Cream Contour

I have always struggled using cream contour and highlights. I thought, why not try it out too? So, I attempted blending out the NYX WonderStick. Normally, I blend it with a beauty sponge and it becomes patchy. I’ve just quit using any cream contour because I don’t like the way it ends up looking. The silisponge allowed it to blend out so easily and beautifully. No harsh lines or patchy coloring. This is the way I have been applying cream contour since I bought this!

Cleanliness

It is SUPER easy to clean which I love. I always rinse and wet my beauty sponge before I use it but this I can simply wipe off the product. It’s easily removed with a makeup wipe. After I apply my foundation, I wipe it off to apply my concealer and the same process before applying me contour. It’d be great to use on a busy day full of several makeup applications!

Final Thought

After about a week of using the Silisponge, I haven’t stopped using it. I reach for both my beauty sponge and my silisponge. I think the beauty sponge gives a smoother softer end result. Blending and application is easier ( to me ) with the silisponge. After I applied my full face, I looked at myself in a magnified mirror. The application wasn’t as beautiful and flawless as I had initially thought. However, I was able to take a damp beauty sponge and just dab it a little around my face to give the finish that a beauty sponge does. You know, the one everyone loves?

I will continue applying my makeup with the Beauty Sponge to soften my application but, I love the application of the silicone applicator. I think it is a great way to save product. It is always frustrating to me to think about how much cream product I waste. There’s a lot that is absorbed into my sponge that is just wasted. With the silicone sponge I avoid the absorption, I use was less product, and it’s super easy to apply. But, I have been going back in to “set down” my foundation and concealer with my beauty sponge too.

Have you tried the silisponge? What were your thoughts?

Gift

Father’s Day is to show gratitude and appreciation to all the dad’s. In my opinion, a Mothers and Fathers Day gift requires the most thought and effort. For Christmas, you can get your dad socks and call it good. But, socks don’t really scream, “thanks for raising me to be the person I am today. Happy fathers days.” What gift correctly displays thanks that a father deserves? What gift tops all gifts? What gift is not just your average Father’s Day gift?

Nathaniel Jester is quite possibly the hardest person to buy for. He likes things like a new set of wedges to improve his golf game or once he asked for work boots. Um. No. I used to pride myself on my gift giving. But, this boy has given me a run for my money. I know what he likes; I know what he needs. But those aren’t thoughtful gifts.

For the first two years of our relationship we were long distance. And I mean really long distance. Nate was working for Kona Queen, a Queen Bee breeder in Kona, Hawaii. I was living and working in Little Rock at the time. Over the course of those two years, I learned a lot about Nate over FaceTime. Two things that have always stood out to me about this boy. One thing is his love for watches and the other his appreciation for phenomena of nature. Insert Jord Watches.

Knowing his love for watches and seeing his collection, buying a watch for him has always seemed like a huge undertaking. There’s a lot of pressure to pick out a cool watch for a watch connoisseur. A watch doesn’t just tell time; it tells you a lot about a person, who they are, and who they want to be. I’ve never gotten Nate a watch.. Until Jord.

Jord has a ton of men’s and women’s watches to choose from to celebrate any special day. This wood watch perfectly fits Nate’s personality. This watch speaks of who Nate is without using words. A wood watch isn’t just a watch. Jord has created a movement of time pieces that are rugged and rustic yet refined. Jord takes a little part of nature and slips it around your wrist. Nate is most relaxed and at peace when he is deeply submerge in nature. When he is far from the chaos of concrete and buildings Nate can truly be himself. Unable to venture that far into Nature on a daily basis Jord has given him the ability to have nature with him all the time. It is my hope that having this little slice of nature on his wrist he can find peace and relaxation no matter what chaos he finds himself.

A Father’s Day gift from your rescue pet isn’t a typical Father’s Day so, a typical gift just would not do. I can think of no better gift than this Jord Wood Watch. And they know how to give gifts. I was floored by the packaging and presentation. And if the packaging is that good the actual gift must be jaw dropping. As soon as I opened the beautifully packaged watch, I was completely blown away by the beauty of the watch. It was so much more than I had imagine. A great fathers Day gift from our four legged son.

Gift

This gift says so much more than socks. Nate’s wood watch says, “Thank you for seeing me when I was scared and alone. Thank you for feeding me when I was hungry, for rescuing me and making me yours. Thank you for choosing me and loving me. Happy Father’s Day!” Whether this gift is from your 4 legged child, your human child, or you; show your gracious heart with Jord. This gift isn’t just your typical thank you and the recipient isn’t just your typical dad.

Gift

Pineapple on Repeat

This jacket is probably saying, ” remember me!?” This Jacket is really showing out at this point. Yes, yes we do! So, Like is said in Perfection in Pineapple, I couldn’t style this outfit just one way. Honestly, You may see this Pineapple jacket in a 100 different insta posts throughout the summer. I’m sorry ( I’m not sorry ) I just can’t help it. I love this jacket.

For outfit two I paired it with lots of sneak peek clothing. They’re killing it just like BB Dakota, really. I know you’ve got to be sick and tired of hearing about how much I love Sneak Peek Jeans but you’re just going to have to try them for yourself or get over it. 😉 Because there’s no stopping me.

Pineapple

Outfit

I put this outfit together and it was just missing SOMETHING! It was too plain and too simple for the mood I was in. Do you ever get that way? Some days, you want the most simple outfit pairing. Other days, simplicity just WILL NOT WORK FOR ME!! That mood sound familiar? This button up is such a feminine twist on your standard button up. Below you can see the cap sleeve detailing. It has a hi low hem line. Some people may be sick of that but I’m not just yet. So,  thank you, Sneak Peek. Thank you for not abandoning that just yet. I love anything that covers my tail. I know most women do. These Sofft shoes are great for errand running or if you’re planning on being on your feet all day. ( Plus, they go great with this outfit so, if you think you need one item you need them all! )

Pineapple Style Tip

The weight of this jacket makes it perfect to tie around your waist. It’s not thick or heavy ( which is why it’s so great for summer ) but it makes it great to tie around your waist without a bulky pineapple puff around your hips!

This may ( or may not ) be the last time you have to hear from me on this jacket. I’m still obsessing but it may be out of my system for now. If you missed my prior post, check it out –> here. You can get a little pineapple inso there. Maybe give you jacket fever. Stop by YAYA Clothing boutique to shop this whole outfit and the outfit from my previous post!

Spring Break Needs List

Spring Break is the happiest time of the year.. after Christmas. Its like the ultimate welcome to summer. (that is until you come back to the frigid Arkansas Spring) I think Arkansans are wired to want to go to the beach for spring break.. I know I always want to be at the beach all the time but particularly around Spring Break.. because being in the adult world we aren’t allotted an actual “Spring Break” But, it’d be cool if we were.

In Arkansas most people go south for spring break. Beach people live here in Arkansas. We are equipped to deal with humidity. Our bodies are made to love the sun, our brains programmed to love the sand, and our souls crave the salt. It is what it is. There’s no way around it. We love the beach. And, granted, maybe I’m just talking about myself and if thats the case and you hate the beach.. I have plenty of other posts you can read that don’t involve my love for the ocean.

I’ve packed for the beach a million times. I wish I was packing for the beach now! But, in my experience heres a list of the things you actually need when you go to the beach!

In your Travel Bag

Spring BreakBackpack | Swimsuit | Dry Shampoo | Sunnies |

I love to carry a backpack when I travel.. That way everything is easy to get to AND its super easy to carry. When its time to unload I don’t have my hands full trying to carry my travel bag ( Carry On if you will ) and suitcase along with everything else..

  1. Purse

Usually, when I travel this acts as my purse and I put my actual vacation purse in my suitcase so That’s one less bag I have to carry.

  2. Makeup Necessities

Just the necessities.. Foundation, Mascara, and Blush. Just in Case. If it fits in my 5 minute morning routine it fits in my travel bag.

  3. iPad

Because no one travels without them anymore

  4. Swimsuit

If I’m flying the swimsuit goes in my travel bag.. Just in case my luggage gets lost, I’ll at least have that!

  5. Headphones

    I cannot travel without headphones

  6. Dry Shampoo

Because I don’t go anywhere without it!

In your Beach Bag..

Which BTW: Should be a cute one..

Spring Break

Swimsuit Top // Bottom | Hat | Sandals | Cover Up | Graphic Tee |
Shorts | Sunnies | “Lynlee” Cup | Beach Blanket | Notebooks |

  1. Swimsuit

I mean, hello! If you’re going to the beach and you were to only take one thing this would be the one thing you should take.  Luckily thats not the case. Everything else is optional but a swimsuit is nonnegotiable. I love Giani Bini Swimsuit from Dillards. These bottoms are GB Highwaisted Bottoms. This top is from target and I’ve had some good luck at Target.

  2. Towel

To lay on.. to dry off.. You must take a towel. This fell under the obvious category for a reason..

  3. Hat + Headband

Your hair in your face.. or sunburnt face & Ears.. Nothing is more annoying than your face getting burn on day one. Put on a hat and put on your sunscreen.  See number 6. Also, this hat is from one of my moms friend’s embroidery company; A Blessed Mess. I linked her Facebook page under the picture or check it out –> Here

  4. Sandals

Because sand and ANY OTHER shoe don’t mix. I love these birkenstocks they’re comfy and easy to walk long distances in.

  5. Cover up

If you do end up burn sitting in the sun knowing your just adding to your burn is the worst. There have been trips that after I burnt I would still want to enjoy the beach life. Insert Cover up here. This tie dyed cover up dress is adorable over any swimsuit. it’s lightweight and flowy and will dry so quickly! I also love the columbia PFGs because they dry quickly and they aren’t hot at all! Plus, how cute are they with your monogram? So cute! Also, I love the free people trapeze dresses over my swimsuit.. they dry quickly and are comfy!

  6. Sunscreen

For your body and your face.. Wrinkles are real. Sunburns are miserable. Put on the Sunscreen.

  7. Floaty

I’ve got a Pizza Slice, Its oh, so fun and its so fun in the water!

  8. Denim Shorts + Cute Graphic Tee

Just a good basic outfit. Plus super nice to pull on after a day at the beach. This is the Spring Break Uniform.. and Lets talk about how cute this Preach Muscle Tee is! You can get it at Yaya’s!

  9. Sunnies

Do I need to elaborate? Plus, These are TOO cute!

  10. Speaker + Headphones

Let’s just make the beach more enjoyable by adding some tunes..

  11. S’well Bottle

We cannot be getting dehydrated while in the sun and on vacation. Grab you a bottle or cup that’ll keep your drinks cold through the whole day of sun bathing. I love my swell bottle. It’s great for the beach because it has a screw top. You won’t have to worry about getting sand into your drink and your beverage will stay cold for hours!

  12. Lifeproof Nud Case
Nothing worse than being somewhere far from home and ruining your phone. A waterproof case is almost as necessary as a swimsuit. This Nud Case is so slim and easy to handle. I love it!
  13. Chapstick

My lips get so chapped when I’m beach side. I always take chapstick with me. Also, there are few things more painful than sunburnt lips.

  14. Magazines, Good Book, iPad

Oceanside entertainment. One can only lay still getting a tan so long before they need to do something.

  15. Beach Blanket

A towel is such a small space to put all your stuff if you’re like me and don’t want sand in EVERYTHING. A beach Blanket allows you to kind of stretch out and have extra space to put your stuff.

  16. Snacks + Drinks

I’m a snacker! Sour Patch Kids, Skittles, Cuties, Crystal Light Packets all get dropped into my bag as I’m running to the beach!

  17. Wallet // Wristlet

If you’re staying far away  from the beach you’re going to need to carry your dollars.. just in case. If you have a functional purse you can throw a wristlet from one bag to the next.

  18. Notebook

I just always carry notebooks with me everywhere. If a thought strikes or something I need to remember crosses my mind..

Fashion Items

Spring Break requires you to take multi-purpose outfits because of the weather! You have to be practical but keep in mind that we still want to look cute and springy. It’s crazy you can go from tanks to sweater in a matter of hours.. I love dresses in when I’m at the beach. You look cute and feel cute but you’re comfy! So comfy! I wish I was a reasonable packer but, I’m not. I pack everything except the kitchen sink. You never know what you might need.. Heres a list of some things you’ll definitely need!

Wardrobe Essentials
  1. Flowy, Lightweight Dress

If you’re burnt, its so horrible to have to wear jean shorts and a shirt. I love throwing on a flowy dress when I’m burnt. It helps avoid some of the pain.

  2. Sweater

This beautiful sweater is SOOO cozy and the color makes it transition into spring without a hitch! I’ll be rocking this with shorts as the seasons start changing. This sweat would be perfect  to wear walking along the beach at night or dinner out! Plus, one those chilly nights you’ll be grateful for something cute and warm!

  3. Jacket

The Weather during spring break is tricky! It may or may not be warm at your destination. I’ve been twice when it was too cold to even get in the water and the wind was blowing so hard you didn’t really want to be on the beach at all. Of course, we endured the cold and sat out there anyway. A Denim Jacket goes with almost everything and they’re not bulky to pack.

  4. Light Weight Pull over

A light weight pull over is a necessity. Any time I travel anywhere I pack a sweatshirt. Whether it be an over night trip or a vacation. It’s almost like a security blanket.. or Jacket.. See this Post –> Here.

  5. Comfy Denim Shirt

This is also great to throw on over your swimsuit but also great for sunburnt days too! Denim on denim or denim with colored jeans is always cute plus layering with denim is cake.

  6. Cute Jammies

If you’re staying with a group of people.. Jammies are always good to pack for the late nights or watching movies or lounging around.. or early morning breakfast before you get ready for a day in the sun!

  7. White Jeans + Blue Jeans + Blush Jeans

First of all, all three of these colors of jeans go with EVERYTHING. Secondly, they instantly brighten up any outfit. So, while you’re beaching and wanting to look bright and extra colorful.. Plus, all three of the shirts I put in there coordinate with all the jeans.

  8. Wedges + Closed Toed Shoes

Cute Healed Sandals or wedges are a must pack. These soft wedges are SOOO comfy! A pair of camel wedges are so easy to throw on with everything in your suitcase. I love camel because you can easily wear them with black or brown! You’re going to want wedges for dinner or night out. Then, of course, the closed toed shoes for nights it gets extra chilly, shopping or you’re walking a little more than usual. I adore these tennies. This style shoes can be worn with basically everything.. like everything else I love.

Accessories

  1. Strapless Bra + Regular Bra

Dragging out all your tanks for the Spring weather you’ll be glad you packed a strapless bra AND if your shoulders are super burnt you may can get away with wearing a strapless bra to keep the pain away.

  2. Functional Purse

You’re going to need a bag that is multi functional. I hate packing multiple purses. Pick a purse that goes with all your outfits and is easy to shop with, wear to dinner etc.

  3. Simple Jewelry

In an attempt to not have to worry, costume jewelry is the way to go. Cheap Jewelry that you don’t have to worry about breaking, losing or ruining your vacation is the only thing I take. I love Walmart and Forever 21 for cute cheap jewelry. Also, Rue 21 has some super fashion piece that you won’t wear a lot but at the beach you can get away with everything so rock that wild jewelry!

Beauty Items

  1. Lotion

Your skin gets so dehydrated from the sun and the salt. It’s such a great feeling to put lotion on your dry skin after a day in the sun.

  2. Moisturizing Face Masks

This is just a fun one with a huge perk. Your skin is dehydrated and so your face isn’t getting skipped in that. Moisturizing Face Masks are great to put on at night to keep your face moisturized and avoid peeling and flaking!

  3. Shampoo, Conditioner, + Leave in Conditioner / UV Protectant

UV Protectant isn’t spoken about enough in my opinion. Especially if you have colored hair this is like a sunscreen for your hair. It keeps your color from fading and getting damaged from the sun!

  4. Detangling Comb // Wet Brush

After a day in the sun, sea, and wind you’re going to be grateful to have something to brush your hair out with!

  5. Waterproof Mascara + BB Cream

Along with the rest of your makeup bag don’t forget waterproof mascara. You don’t want to have black running down your face when you’re caught by an unexpected wave. And you may want a little coverage for your face but not wanting a whole face of makeup. Grab your BB Cream for a light coverage but still beach ready look!

  6. Glasses + Extra Contacts

I love taking my contacts out after a day at the beach. It feels so refreshing!

  7. Pony Tail Holders + Bobby Pins

You do not want to be caught at the beach with your hair down.

Wet N Wild Product Review

First Impressions.. They’re a little uhh.. scary sometimes.. But, Wet N Wild is a really cheap brand for what you get and their products are almost always great quality. They just recently launched some new products I wanted to test them out and do a product review for you all! Also, I just learned they’re cruelty free. You know I’m an animal lover. Them being Cruelty Free just adds to my love refund love for Wet N Wild Products. Not all the products I tried are new but, they were all new to me! This is the honest truths about what I thought about them.

Makeup

1// Wet N Wild Come Correct Celebrity Concealer

Rated: 2 Stars. That’s being a little forgiving too.

I’ll start with the bad: This is a very thick, dry feeling concealer. It was troublesome to blend out. This concealer did blend into the rest of my foundation.. eventually. It took a little extra work. It feels a bit heavy and dry under my eyes. I didn’t bake my foundation because I thought that was a little out of the question.  For someone who doesn’t consider themself “good at makeup” I would highly suggest you try something else.
The Good: It is a very full coverage concealer. It did blend out nicely into my foundation. Even though this concealer has a thick base it’s not cakey looking. It covers well and doesn’t look dry! It’s just really thick and very full coverage. With that being said.. I have dark eye lids and the darkness comes down around the outside corner of my eye so I need a little extra coverage in my shadow primer. As a shadow primer, Blended into the skin with a very damp beauty sponge so nicely. I set it with a little powder before applying my eyeshadow and I wasn’t disappointed. My discoloration in my eyelids was completely masked. My shadow didn’t crease or fade and the pigments were great. If you’re looking for a shadow primer and don’t like using your normal concealer this is a good, cheap alternative.

Application: I don’r recommend for concealer. Shadow Primer: Apply small amount onto each lid buff in with damp (very damp) beauty sponge. Set with powder brush. I use a powder brush that I used the day before. There’s still enough product on the brush to set my concealer without changing the color. Then, I proceed to apply my eyeshadow.

2// Wet N Wild photofocus Foundation

Product ReviewRated: 4.5 Stars

Shade: Buff Bisque
This is a lightweight, medium coverage foundation. Its $5.99! The Coverage it gives is amazing. For me, it’s not too much coverage but it’s just enough to notice I have evened out my skin tone and smoothed out my complexion. It really light weight and super comfortable on my skin. It doesn’t feel tacky at all. As a matter of fact once it settled it feels so soft and natural on! It dispenses so easily!

Most drugstore foundations have to be poured or squeezed. This has an applicator that you can dip into the product and apply directly to your face, brush or sponge. A couple reviews said that they felt it dried quickly. I didn’t experience the product drying too quickly to properly blend it in.and its supposed to eliminate the appearance of your foundation being WAY too light for you when you take a picture sometimes, ya know what I’m talking about? We all hate that so, if this works like it says that alone is worth it!

Application: I have used a sponge and plan on using a brush also. I almost always apply my foundation with a sponge so that was how I tried it first. It’s probably my favorite way.

3// Wet N Wild photofocus Concealer

Product ReviewRated: 4.5 Stars

Shade: Light Ivory
I am loving this concealer too! I haven’t baked it yet but I did find it settled ever so slightly into my fine lines. Almost all concealers do this to me so, that isn’t enough reason for me to downplay the greatness of this concealer. It was super easy to blend and not at all heavy like the Come Correct Concealer. This concealer was comfortable to wear and didn’t make my under eyes too bright. It, too, was tested under 7 different lights. Concealer gives you those raccoon eyes? Testing this under those lights helps prevent that “flashback.” Can’t hate that!

Application: Like always, I applied to under eyes, nose and chin and blended out with my damp beauty sponge.

4// Wet N Wild Coloricon Brow Pencil

Product ReviewRated: 3.5 Stars

Shade: Brunette’s Do It Better
I, like every one else, am a brow girl. I was late to the wagon but, I’m still here and very present. My brows aren’t as killer as some. I’m not as good at filling them in as others BUT, I try. I’ve tried lots of different products. Loved some; hated others. This product goes on so smooth. Whether you have tot draw them on or fill them in this product gives you a great brow look. The formula isn’t waxy so it doesn’t drag or pull. It’s super smooth. Being super smooth can be a good or a bad thing. Since it is so smooth you have to watch how heavy handed you get or you’ll make them too dark. There’s a spooky on the end to help diffuse those over powered brows and make them more natural.

5// Wet N Wild Perfect Pout Gel Lip Liner

Product Review

Rate: 4 Stars

Shade: Never Petal Down
The Consistency is really, really soft! It’s not waxy and doesn’t drag at all. When I first started to apply it the formula made me second guess it’s longevity. But it lasted through lunch and two bottles of water without fading. It’s VERY soft and feels so nice on. It’s extremely wearable and not at all drying. The pigment is really nice too. I chose a light pink shade. On the lips it held its shade. The color didn’t deepen once I applied it! I like to wear lipliner sometimes instead of lipstick. This liner is so soft and not drying to wear all day. However, it did settle into the cracks in my lips because they’re really dry.

Application: Apply Moisturizer before. Line lips like usual.

6// Wet N Wild Pout & Shock Lip Balm

Product Review

Rate: 3 Stars

Shade: Shock
Let me start by saying, Lippie are hard for me to love. I have a certain number of brands I love. I’m low maintenance with lippies and I don’t want to have to reapply over and over; thats too much effort to me. I don’t want to have to worry about bleeding or smudging. The consistency of this lip balm is very soft and hydrating. The color is a little bit deceiving because they’re not actually that pigment. I thought it was. *frown* For a lip balm it’s so nice. I love having a little color in a lip balm. Especially right now when we’re all battling dry lips. I am loving this!

7// Wet N Wild Color Icon Ombre Blush

Product ReviewRate: 4 Stars

Shade: The Princess Daiquiris

This is great if you want a very subtle highlight. It’s not super pigmented but it gives a nice light sheen. Ombre Blush’s shimmer in the blush is nice to give you a little extra in your blush. I use this over my blush to add an extra pop!

Wet N Wild is making a comeback. If you haven’t tried their Liquid Lipsticks you should try them too! I wrote a post about them. You can find it H E R E ! I’ve been using these Wet N Wild Products for a while now and I am loving them!
