Everything You May Need at the Lake

Time seems to just stop and speed up when you’re at the Lake. It goes by so quickly but at the same time it passes so slowly. It’s a rush and a peace all in the same. It’s chaos and serenity all at once. There’s something about being beside a body of water, in any form, that makes you feel a flood of different emotions. In the summer, I live for that flood.

So, as you probably noticed I am an over packer. I will always be an over packer. I pack about 4 pairs of extra panties, an extra sweater, and two pair of extra pants. Just in case you know? Even though I know from experience, the extras I packed will not be worn, they end up tossed in my suitcase anyway. I’ve come to know that’s just the person I am; the over packer. And, I’m okay with that. I always ALWAYS worry I’m going to forget something or worry I will need something and not have it. Going to the Lake you almost have to take it all. Just like being at the beach, you’re not going to want to run to the store if you forgot something especially if you’ve already gotten settle. So, you gotta take it all. Once you’re out on the water you better have what you need.. or else. 🙂

Lake Necessities

You know, there’s that list of things you HAVE TO HAVE..

  1. Swimsuit or Two – Probably two. No one likes putting on a wet swimsuit. Last year, I left mine at home when we went. I’ve also linked some swimmies here.
  2. Sunglasses – Two pair of cheap sunnies. So, if you lose a pair you have a back up.
  3. Beach Blanket – a la Suite 41 Boutique.
  4. Beach Towel – Vera Bradley towels are my fave. The Easter Bunny ( my mom ) got my sister and I towels for Easter
  5. Hat / Head Band – Hair out of the way. Sun out of you face.
  6. Flippies – No need to ruin good shoes.
  7. Sunscreen – See –> this post. Physical Sunscreen.
  8. Jacket – I detest being cold. On the water, it’s extra chilly; even on the warmest night.
  9. Pony Tail Holders ( This would be number 2 right under swim suit if these were numbered in order  of importance. )
  10. Beach Bag – To keep all the items in one place. 🙂 I love a tote like it linked. Waterproof and sandproof + they hold a ton.
  11. Kimono / Swimsuit Cover up – I love a kimono for swim suit cover up.
  12. PFG Columbia – I almost always take mine. See Sunscreen post. They’re soft, light weight, and protect you from the sun
  13. Air Dry Cream – I don’t know about you but my hair is REAL cute when it air dries naturally. ( Not really )
  14. Chapstick – Burnt Lips. Chapped Lips. No thank you.

Other Lake Necessities

Then, there’s that list of things your have to have..

  1. Jean Shorts – They go with your jacket, your swimsuit, your tee shirt. Just take them you’ll need them
  2. Take Me to the Lake Tee – obviously. There’s 2 Styles. See also this one.
  3. Life Proof Case – Water + Cell Phone = expensive Life Proof = $100
  4. Polaroid Camera – Just for fun!
  5. Pizza Float ( or other #BASIC floaties ) – So, you can be cool
  6. Fun Cup – Because you need it
  7. Sour Patch Kids – because you should never go on a trip without them.
  8. Aloe Vera and ibuprofen – Sun Burn relief, ya know?
  9. Phone Charger – No one ever leaves without these
  10. Head Phones – because I take headphones everywhere
  11. Water Proof Mascara – Water + Mascara = Mess. Water + Water Proof Mascara = Pretty
  12. Makeup Wipes – Get that sunscreen off your face AND I always travel with makeup wipes
  13. Coconut Oil – Rehydrate your sun dried skin while you see
  14. Wet Brush – Lake Water hair is just unmanageable.
  15. Chrystal Light Packets – Stay hydrated with flavor

More Lake Necessities

Then, there’s this list.. The fun stuff, the cute stuff,

  1. Monogram Coozie – You need a cookie and you need it to have your monogram on it
  2. Cooler – nothing cooler. ( no pun intended )
  3. Bendy Straws – Just for fun
  4. Flash Tats – Just for more fun
  5. Cute PJs – Should I elaborate or..?
  6. Nail File / Top Coat – I have a hang nail and chipping nail polish. Somethings you just always have. These are two of mine
  7. Baggy T-shirt and Lose Shorts – for if (or when ) you get sun burnt
  8. GoPro – no commentary needed.
  9. Swimsuit bag – travel home with your wet shimmies and not worry about getting the rest of your clothes wet.
  10. Waterproof Watch – because I always wear a watch and feel lost without it.
  11. Cute Choker – More just for fun

Did I forget some things? Probably, let’s be honest here. I always forget something! But, I covered a lot of bases. So, next time you’re on the water. Remember to check out my list to make sure you’ve grabbed everything! Until next time.

Ultimate Sun Protection Guide

Hello, Summer! I know officially Summer isn’t until late June but here in Arkansas it’s in full swing. I think all school are out for summer in my area and it’s that time. Time to be water side. There are some summer essentials that I’ll list later. For the sake of this Guide, I’m going to keep it about skin protection.

For months my mom has been on me about wearing sunscreen on my face. She has always told me put on sun screen. But, with my complexion it wasn’t always required ( in my eyes ) because I wouldn’t usually burn. I will typically get one sun burn a year; like one really good sun burn. After that, I normally wouldn’t apply sun screen at all. A couple of months ago, I read an article that popped up on my snapchat that was all about sunscreen. What stood out the most to me was in part of the article it said you should apply sunscreen everyday and twice a day if you work by a window. I was floored. Who thinks about applying sunscreen every day? Let me be the first to admit I do not.

That is until lately. Like I said my mom has been on my sister and I for a while about wearing sunscreen on our faces everyday. To the point she bought us both face sunscreen to apply under our makeup. ( I have used it every day since ) In an effort to avoid sounding like your mom telling you to wear sun screen, I’m going to share with you a little research I have done in the form of this Guide.

What does SPF mean?

Suns Protection Factor. SPF Measures your sunscreens ability to protect your skin from the sun. SPF 15 means your skin is protected 15x longer than what your skin would be without it. Basically put, if your skin usually takes 10 minutes to burn without any protection, when you use SPF 15 you can stay in the sun for 150 minutes before burning. Or if you’re like one of my friends and you burn the instant the sun hits your skin, you can be out there 15 minutes. 😉

You’re at a higher risk if you have light hair, skin and eyes, so snag a higher SPF. You darker headed ladies, don’t skip the sunscreen just because you think you’re safe. Once again, let me be the first to admit something else. I had no clue what SPF meant. All I (thought I) knew is higher number = higher protection; which isn’t even the case. Higher number means longer protection!

How long should the sunscreen be on my skin before sun exposure?

It takes about 30 minutes for “chemical sunscreen ” to absorb and begin protecting your skin.  Physical Sunscreen begins protection as soon as it’s applied. I’ll elaborate more later on in the guide.

Well, I mean, my mom always said I had to wait until my sunscreen dried but, raise your hair if you actually did that. AND NO ONE better have thought about raising their hand because I bet you didn’t wait all 30 minutes.

How often should I reapply?

Every 2 hours and/or immediately after swimming and sweating. Water Resistant Formulas can usually withstand water or sweat for 40-80 minutes. This information should be stated somewhere on the bottle.

We had a pool growing up and my mom taught so she was like the local sitter for our friends. Logan and I, along with all our friends would swim all day in the summer when we were younger. I know my mom made us reapply our sunscreen ( it wasn’t a free for all and we weren’t neglected! ) but every two hours, we did not.

 What are UVA Rays?

UVA rays make up most of the UV ray exposure. 80% of UVA rays penetrate through the clouds. They penetrate deeper into the skin making this the main ray for tanning. “A tan results from injury to the skin’s DNA; the skin darkens in an imperfect attempt to prevent further DNA damage”, according to SkinCancer.org. ( WHAT?!?! ) UVA rays can penetrate your skin year round. UVA rays cause premature aging, dark spots, fine lines, wrinkles, and leathery skin.

What are UVB Rays?

UVB rays can burn you year round. They give more visible damage to skin. UVB rays are strongest from April – October and between 10am and 4pm. UVB rays cause – Sunburns, redness, and skin cancer.

First things first, broad spectrum sunscreen will protect you from both. Of course, I’m thinking, if I want tan skin but not leathery skin, I better be applying sunless tan because UVA makes it hard to have both! Plus, I’m already getting wrinkles on my forehead and I’m not about that. Basically put, ( if I’m understanding the correctly ) UVA gives us long term damage that isn’t immediately visible. While UVB rays give us more instant, visible damage.

Physical Sunscreen – Sunblock

Physical Sunscreen deflects and blocks rays from skin and reflect sun rays. This sunscreen sits on top of the skin and protects against UV rays. Physical Sunscreen usually leaves a white cast on your skin. Physical Sunscreens block UVA and UVB rays. Because of the ingredients children NEED this type of sunscreen. The ingredients are more gentle and safer for sensitive skin and acne prone skin. This sunscreen choice starts protecting the instant it’s applied.  And it has a longer shelf life than the alternative. When searching for Physical sunscreen look for ingredients Zinc Oxides  and Titanium Dioxides.

Chemical Sunscreen – Organic Sunscreen

Chemical Sunscreen absorbs rays to prevent penetration. The formula is thinner than Physical sunscreen so the application process is easier and easier to wear daily. You do have to let chemical sunscreen “dry” or absorb into your skin before sun exposure. Penetrates the skin and absorbs the rays. The higher the SPF the more irritating it can be for sensitive skin types.
Chemical Ingredients: Avobenzone, Octylcrylene, Octisalate, Helioplex, Oxybenzone, Uvinul, Homosalate, Mexoryl SX

Applying this Guide to my Real Life

After my mom telling me repeatedly to wear sunscreen on my face and finally buying me some, I caved into the pressure. She purchased me the equate brand from walmart. It’s a dupe for the CeraVe face sunscreen. Until I really started putting this post together, I only applied it on my face under my makeup and my hand ( to keep my wreck battle wound from scarring ). As I’m typing this portion of this Guide I’m also shopping for sunscreen to apply on my body daily. I’m going to purchase the Honest Beauty and the First Aid Beauty Sunscreens to try. When applying sunscreen, use the 1 oz. rule. One ounce should cover your whole body. Apply 1 oz daily, not just at the pool or beach.

On Your Face

Face sunscreen can be applies under your makeup primer or as your primer. It’s a must. Your sunscreen in your makeup isn’t enough to prevent sun damage! Isn’t that kind of deceiving? The Equate Sunscreen Face Lotion is great under my makeup. My skin has been extremely dry lately and this sunscreen has served as a great dose of extra moisture. Makeup applies easily over the top of this sunscreen and lasts all day long! When purchasing face sunscreen look for non-comedogenic. It won’t clog your pores and is great option for acne prone skin. Also, try to find and alcohol free formula to avoid drying. A Gel Sunscreen is another good option for acne prone skin too.

But, sunscreen is only one level of defense. A wide brimmed hat, sunglasses, and shirts with UV protection are also great options to grab when you’re heading out for a long day in the sun. With a wide brimmed hat you can protect your hair, your scalp, your ears, face, and the back of your neck. Sun damage is irreversible. I don’t know about you but, I need to start now protecting my skin because I have neglected sun protection in the past.

Luckily, floppy hats are in style, so go get you a floppy hat. Burn scalp and ears are the worst! As far as your shoulders, chest and arms, I love to wear a columbia PFG when I’m going to be in the sun for a long period of time. I’ve even worn it in the ocean when I was burnt. They are lightweight, cool, and dry quickly. Plus, they’re extremely soft and have protection in them! Lastly, please don’t forget your sunglasses. Your eyes can get damage from the sun too.

I have taken the time to write this guide for your guys to filter through some of the masses of information that come along with sunscreen and sun protection. In writing this guide I have left out a lot of information that could have made this guide way too long. I encourage you to look into it and do some rsearch yourself to discover some information about this topic. It can be overwhelming and I hope this guide has helped filter the confusion and answered some questions you had or even didn’t know you had!

Saturdays are for..

April and May are busy times 1000 in all aspects of life. An empty Saturday is hard to come by these days. Kids are finishing up school and getting ready to start Summer. Teens are having prom and finals. Parents are trying to get a schedule in place for summer all while chasing their kids to every practice, ball game, banquet, and awards day the school offers. Kudos, mommas.

Even, around the cosmetology world. It’s busy! Every Saturday since the first weekend in April I have had busy Saturdays at work. I’m talking all day long. I’m not complaining. I love doing updos for such important days. Through April it’s Prom season, banquets, and benefits. Not to mention wedding season is in full swing as well. I have not stopped on Saturdays for over a month. For the last 6 weeks, I have worked and worked and worked. Okay, thats a little dramatic but I mean..

Do you have a job you love but still need an occasional break from? Lynlee does! I knew going into beauty school that Saturdays would be for working. But, working on a Saturday come in waves for me. I work several Saturdays in a row and then, my client don’t even request an appointment on Saturdays for weeks. Spring is one of the waves of working Saturdays. Summer is a big wave of not working Saturdays because people love to spend time with their families, friends, and enjoying the weather. I’m embracing the off duty Saturday.

Hairstylist Hours of Operation

I laughed as I strolled Old Navy a couple weeks ago and stumbled upon this shirt. “Off Duty” it read. I’m certain it has some other meaning but to me, it was a funny play on words for my chosen profession. As a hairstylist you’re never off duty. I know there are lots of professions that have the same hours as me, all hours. There are no hours of operation. I am in the service industry. My schedule is flexible so that it fits YOUR schedule. That’s 1/2 the reason I love the job so much. My schedule is made by me.

Over the last weekend, Nate asked me to trim his neck at about 9:00 Sunday Night. If I’m getting ready with my mom, I want to help. If I’m doing my makeup with my friends I get asked to help or tips and tricks. As a hairstylist you’re never off work. So, obviously I had to snag this tank!

Being a hairstylist is the career of my dreams. I never feel like I work. For me, it’s never a job. With everything come the need to get away, get refreshed, and start again. I love helping my mom fix her hair. It brings me joy when my friends ask me tricks about doing their hair and makeup. To be asked to trim someones hair in my “of duty” time is one of those things that makes you feel like you’re doing the job of your calling. To me, it’s never work. I’m embracing the day of being “Off Duty” tomorrow.

Off Duty Saturday

I’ll be the girl wearing no makeup with unfixed hair. Nate and I love our Saturdays together. We love to do everything and nothing. Once, Nate said, “I think you have lost weight.” I said, “YEAH! because we never set still on the weekends.” But, I don’t mind it. Call me crazy but I love, love, love my job but I need a day to do absolutely nothing. I want to play around with no schedule no list of dos or time frames to meet. And, I want to spend the whole day with my dog and Nate. Every now and then you earn a day like that, ya know?

I look forward to getting up too early so Nate can have Eggs Benedict at Fat City. Come home to immediately start working on things. We are both most relaxed when we’re working on a project. Thats where we’ll be. You can find us projecting for our mom’s Mother’s DayGifts.  ( Fun Fact: Both our moms are named Donna. )

My Donna asked for a bed swing to go in her outdoor kitchen. She loves to swing and has ALWAYS had a swing in the back yard. My mom has been drooling over bed swings for years. We saw one on one of our annual beach trips to Seaside and has wanted one ever since. His Donna is getting a huge planter because she LOVES flowers. Both our moms love their outdoor spaces. His mom has a beautiful pavilion in her back yard surrounded by flowers and bird feeders. They already know what they’re getting so this isn’t blowing any surprises. I can’t wait to celebrate these moms.

Saturdays are for Relaxing

Today, when I put away my products after my last client and turn off my blowdryer, I’ll be off duty. As much as I love my job, I am looking forward to it! How do you relax on your Off Duty Days? What’s on your mother’s day gift list? Let me know below! oh, and P.S. Old Navy is having 30% off until Sunday! ( your welcome )

Father’s Day is to show gratitude and appreciation to all the dad’s. In my opinion, a Mothers and Fathers Day gift requires the most thought and effort. For Christmas, you can get your dad socks and call it good. But, socks don’t really scream, “thanks for raising me to be the person I am today. Happy fathers days.” What gift correctly displays thanks that a father deserves? What gift tops all gifts? What gift is not just your average Father’s Day gift?

Nathaniel Jester is quite possibly the hardest person to buy for. He likes things like a new set of wedges to improve his golf game or once he asked for work boots. Um. No. I used to pride myself on my gift giving. But, this boy has given me a run for my money. I know what he likes; I know what he needs. But those aren’t thoughtful gifts.

For the first two years of our relationship we were long distance. And I mean really long distance. Nate was working for Kona Queen, a Queen Bee breeder in Kona, Hawaii. I was living and working in Little Rock at the time. Over the course of those two years, I learned a lot about Nate over FaceTime. Two things that have always stood out to me about this boy. One thing is his love for watches and the other his appreciation for phenomena of nature. Insert Jord Watches.

Knowing his love for watches and seeing his collection, buying a watch for him has always seemed like a huge undertaking. There’s a lot of pressure to pick out a cool watch for a watch connoisseur. A watch doesn’t just tell time; it tells you a lot about a person, who they are, and who they want to be. I’ve never gotten Nate a watch.. Until Jord.

Jord has a ton of men’s and women’s watches to choose from to celebrate any special day. This wood watch perfectly fits Nate’s personality. This watch speaks of who Nate is without using words. A wood watch isn’t just a watch. Jord has created a movement of time pieces that are rugged and rustic yet refined. Jord takes a little part of nature and slips it around your wrist. Nate is most relaxed and at peace when he is deeply submerge in nature. When he is far from the chaos of concrete and buildings Nate can truly be himself. Unable to venture that far into Nature on a daily basis Jord has given him the ability to have nature with him all the time. It is my hope that having this little slice of nature on his wrist he can find peace and relaxation no matter what chaos he finds himself.

A Father’s Day gift from your rescue pet isn’t a typical Father’s Day so, a typical gift just would not do. I can think of no better gift than this Jord Wood Watch. And they know how to give gifts. I was floored by the packaging and presentation. And if the packaging is that good the actual gift must be jaw dropping. As soon as I opened the beautifully packaged watch, I was completely blown away by the beauty of the watch. It was so much more than I had imagine. A great fathers Day gift from our four legged son.

This gift says so much more than socks. Nate’s wood watch says, “Thank you for seeing me when I was scared and alone. Thank you for feeding me when I was hungry, for rescuing me and making me yours. Thank you for choosing me and loving me. Happy Father’s Day!” Whether this gift is from your 4 legged child, your human child, or you; show your gracious heart with Jord. This gift isn’t just your typical thank you and the recipient isn’t just your typical dad.

You can enter for your chance to win $100 gift card for Jord! You have until May 28th at 11:59 pm to enter! Click the image above to enter or –>  this link here.

In my Purse

Maybe we’re all just nosy or maybe just searching for reassurance that we’re not really as weird as we think we are. Either way.. Girls love knowing what other girls are using, loving, and for some unknown reason what they’re carrying in their purse. If you’re anything like me I carry everything but the kitchen sink with me. It’s always funny to me what is important enough to make the cut when I switch to carry a small purse.

My small purse carrying days are short lived, always! There’s just not enough room in there. I wish I was a girl that carried a small purse but, I just can’t be that girl! There’s a lot of stuff in my purse. Stuff I know I won’t use throughout the day, most likely. You never know when something is going to pop up and you wish you had something! Am I right? Generally, I carry a backpack. Nate always says, “do you have to carry that inside?” Uhm, excuse me!? Yes! Because, obviously, I might need my iPad while we eat dinner..? No, Lynlee you won’t but I carry with me always anyway. So, what.

Any given day you will, for real, find my iPad in my purse. As well as a wide array of other useful items. Such as tennis balls, phone charger, my lappy, 10 lipsticks and empty water bottles.

I need a pure that’ll carry all those things. My favorite purse type is a structured tote! I found this Vera Bradley bag in teal at H+S in here in Searcy. It sits up on its own and hold all the things I need. AND for the most part it’s easy to get my stuff in and out without digging for it. This bag is big enough even my laptop fits in it! ( Which I also carry with me pretty frequently ) It has 3 pockets on the inside and one on the outside to help ease organization for this chaotic girl.  It’s, hands down, one of my favorite bags. Bonus, it matches my planner.

My planner is definitely one of those things I classify as important and is definitely useful. Raise your hand if you can’t remember anything. My mom says she was much older ( and raising two children ) when she realized her memory was failing her from time to time. It hasn’t taken me children or age to realize everything needs written down. Not to mention my business is RAN on a schedule. Not just my schedule but other peoples so, if I leave the house without this beautiful thing it’s really a miracle! My life is in this planner and after years I have found a planner that I absolutely love. Thanks, Erin Condren ( and Christie Hensley )

There are of course some things less businessy that are alway in my purse. Including Top Coat, lipstick, and energy packets. These Great Value energy packs from Walmart are my favorite. Try out the Dragon Fruit for a midday pick me up! Personally, I cannot stand my nail polish to chip. I keep a top coat to keep my manicure last longer. Once it starts chipping I will proceed to pick it all off until I am back to my natural nail. So good for your nails, not. Among other things I can’t stand, a hang nail and/or long nails in general, Nail File is a MUST. And, if I’m being honest, I usually have it in my wallet and there’s another in my vehicle and beside my bed.

Of course bobby pins are a must. Let me let YOU in on a secret. Sally’s Beauty Supply has the BEST bobby pins! You get a whole pound of bobby pins for like $7 AND they are the very best. They are my all time favorite bobby pin; a ride or die, if you will. Last, but not least, a scrunchie. Now that my hair is short, I don’t wear it up in a pony tail much, if ever. When it was longer it was ALWAYS in a pony tail. I opted for schrunchies to help relieve some stress and damage from a traditional pony tail holder. *shrug*

Blogging isn’t all fun and games. Mostly, but not always. I keep sticky notes, a small pocket notebook, and a sharpie pen ( always sharpie because they are my fave! ) at all times just in case an idea strikes. Ideas come up at all kind of times and inconvenient places. As I mentioned above.. I can’t remember anything and I HATE that feeling of, Oh, I had a thought.. Then, not remember that thought. So, to keep up I write them down on a sticky and insert into planner or in this cute little journal if there’s extra details that I have in mind!

A purse is like a glimpse into someone’s life. Seeing and knowing what they carry tells a lot about them and their personality.. You can tell by my purse I enjoy technology and attempt to be organized (and fail). I am definitely one of those people who overpacks even in my daily life. I have a fear of what I’ll need and not have. Carry a big bag and you’ll always have everything, right?

What do you ALWAYS carry in your purse? Share in the comments.

15 Things to Consider before Getting a Dog

Things to consider before getting a dog

It’s National Puppy Day!
In honor of Dock and all the Dog Lovers out there, I appropriately wore this ” I love my Dog ” Tee from Hope Ignite. I have been holding off for THIS. VERY. DAY! This company designs shirts for a great cause.. or causes!
( Don’t worry Cat Lovers, they have one for you too! )

Dogs are a huge commitment. Personally, I have loved every minute of being a Dog Mom! There’s a lot of things that go into caring for a dog. They demand attention and love. A dog is like having a toddler. Dogs are such a great addition to families. There’s some things to consider before you bring them into your family!

Having a dog has taught me a lot! A little back story with my puppers. A little over a year ago, someone posted how good the documentary, “Champions” was. If you haven’t heard of it.. watch the trailer –> here then, go check it out on netflix. It’s about Michael Vick’s Pitbulls and dog fighting ring. So, I watched it. It didn’t let me down. As a matter of fact, it triggered me to research pitbulls. According to the documentary, they are sweet, gentle, and loving. To speak of them as a whole they are cuddling, high energy, and overall happy dogs. The following weekend I stumbled upon an abandoned Pitbull. He lives up to their claims. But, there were some things I had forgotten about or maybe overlooked while the excitement of finding this dog had overtaken me! So, Here’s 15 (+ 20 More) Things to Consider Before Getting a Dog!

15 Things to Consider Before Getting a Dog

1. You’ll probably have to pick up poop..

More times than you’d like to recall, you’ll pick up poop. Accidents happen. Even though Dock is house broken sometimes he gets sick..

 2. Drool

What you have looks tasty; drool. He’s hot; drool. His mouth is open; drool. Drool everywhere. Even if they aren’t heavy droolers there will still be drool.

3. Fleas.

They have to go outside. Fleas are just part of it. Flea pills are worth their weight in gold. Just bite the bullet. Once a month. You won’t regret it.

4. That pair of shoes you like.. they’ll probably get chewed up

Countless things destroyed at the hands (mouth) of my dog. Shoes, purse straps, pillows, toys, TENNIS BALLS! Everything can be eaten and possibly will.

 5. Dogs don’t talk.

When they’re whiny for 20 minutes straight and you can’t seem to figure it out you result to trial and error.. and poking your eyes out. Until you realize their favorite toy is out of their reach and they want it now. But, he could;t tell me that because he can’t talk.. They also don’t talk back…

6. It doesn’t matter the weather they still have to go outside

If you don’t want to revisit number one, you’ll endure rain or shine, hot or cold. And yes, sometimes it’s miserable when the wind chill factor is -20 and your dog takes this opportunity to smell every blade of grass in your yard.

7. You’re going to be licked A LOT

They’re just showing affection.. or you have food on your face. I don’t know if my dog likes the taste of my makeup but he never fails me. Freshly applied makeup.. on giant lick up the side of my face. He would lick me for hours if I’d let him.
Also, they lick their butt then your face. They drink from the toilet then lick your face..

8. That food on the counter.. they can reach it

Few things are out of reach. If it smells good or looks fun they’ll get it. Where there’s a will theres DEFINITELY a way and they’ll find it.

Dog Mom Story:

My mom made brisket shortly after I rescued Dock. Generally, he’s my little shadow. not this day. I put some brisket on my plate and my mom called me into the living room. When I came back I momentarily thought I was going crazy until I see Dock standing their licking the floor.

9. They prefer your bed to theirs

AND they take up the whole bed..
Can you blame them? No one likes sleeping on the floor. Dock has never slept on the floor. From the time I brought him home he slept in bed with me. It’s a joke if someone suggests him sleeping in his own bed. I literally laugh at that suggestion.

10. Dog hair. Everywhere.

It’s part of your wardrobe, your bedding and your carpet now. It’s all over my jeep too. No matter how many times I vacuum ( which don’t get confused, thats not often ) there’s still little dog hair on the seats of my jeep.

11. No more personal space

What bubble? On top of me, beside me, underneath me. The closer the better. And if you don’t let the dog in your space he will force himself into your space and you will end up welcoming the dog into your space anyway!

12. I hope you like the sound of your own voice because you’ll hear it a lot

“No. No. Dock. No. Down. Quit. Stop. What are you eating? Where did you get that? Get back. Stay. No. Stay. Wait. Dock? Dock! Hey!!”

13. Alone time is nonexistent

Even in the shower there’s a visible black nose poking in and out of the shower curtain. and just forget going to the bathroom alone. You either close the door and listen to them whine or you don’t close the door and they come in there with the happiest look on their faces wondering what you’re doing. You choose.

14. White pants and dirty paws don’t mix

Paw prints are just a fashion accessory at this point. Anything light colored I have must be put on after Dock has had enough time to get the dirt off his paws..

15. Dirty paws and anything don’t mix

My bedding looks filthy. There’s paw prints on my jeep seat. The rug in my room is a dingy beige.

Things to consider before getting a dog

20 More Things to Consider Before Getting a Dog

The good always outweighs the bad. It doesn’t matter how mad I am at Dock or how much trouble he’s been in I can’t stay mad or stick to my guns. He’s ornery and sassy. He has so much personality and loves to show it off. All the good completely outweighs any of the bad..

PS How Cute is the Dog!?
( I may have bribed him to look at me by holding his tennis ball. and by “I may have” I really mean I did! )

1. Endless snuggles

You always have someone who wants to snuggle. And lately, he discovered how toasty it is under the covers while we’re sleeping. He gets under the covers and snuggles me all night long.

2. You’re never alone

There’s always someone there to keep you company. And he doesn’t judge you for all the weird stuff you do while you’re alone and he doesn’t judge you for talking to yourself.. I mean to him.

3. You connect on a different level because they don’t talk

They see all your different moods and emotions. They sense things other people can’t. You expose them emotions you don’t show other people. They understand you on a different level.

If I’m upset Dock always knows and wants to lick my face or snuggle me. Even when I’m sick he just lays around with me.

4. Unconditional love

It doesn’t matter how mad you get they still love you. It’s hard to punish him when he just wants pets. Even if I have gotten onto Dock he still wants to love on me! Like his form of an apology.

5. Door greeter

Always, Always, Always so happy to see you. Whether it’s been 5 minutes or 5 days. Whether you were petting him and sweet when you left him or if he was in trouble. He’s still excited to see you!

6. Outside time is good for the heart.

Even in the rain and cold, fresh air is good for your lungs.. and your soul. It’s good for you and them to get outside and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. When Dock gets outside its like the first time grass ever touched his paws he goes NUTS!!

7. Alarm System and Security Guard

Their hearing is impeccable and they can be intimidating. You get a warning bark and possibly a security growl. They sense things you don’t and hear things we don’t. Also, they recognize familiar vehicles so know when someone unfamiliar is there!

8. Heating Blanket

Keeping you warm through the night. See number 1. They also like your bed better so they take care of you on the cold nights.

9. Travel companion

Car rides are made less boring by having someone to pet. Dogs love car rides. It’s good for them to get out and about.

10. They help with anxiety and depression

Proven fact.

11. Exercise Partner

Not that I exercise but I’ve chased my dog several times. If he needs a walk, I get to burn some calories.

12. They give you a purpose

Watch pitbulls and parolees if you don’t believe me. Even on days that I don’t feel right Dock still gets me up and going.

13. They teach you compassion, responsibility,  discipline, and contentment

Having a dog as an adult has taught me so much more than any dog I had growing up. He depends solely on me to feed him, love him, and care for him. Only I care about him being warm, having shelter, and being safe. ( and Nate cares too but you get the point )

13. They don’t complain about their clothes.

They can’t. So, put that sweater on him!

14. They don’t tattle on you for weird stuff you do alone

First of all, they don’t know it’s weird. Secondly, they can’t tell anyone what you’re doing anyway. Kids on the other hand…

15. They brighten your day

Door greeter, unconditional love, snuggles, warmth.. the list goes on. They make the days better.

16. Unlike children, you can leave them at home.

No daycare cost for this dog mom.. no diaper cost either.

17. You don’t have to share your chocolate.

They can’t have it. It’s all yours.

18. Their toys are cheap.

Tennis Balls are cheaper than a hatchmal….

19. You sleep better when you sleep with a dog

Also a proven fact. Since they calm anxiety and even out your breathing they make you sleep better. Or so I’m told..

20. They’re just so, so stinking cute.

No explanation needed.

Spring Break Needs List

Spring Break is the happiest time of the year.. after Christmas. Its like the ultimate welcome to summer. (that is until you come back to the frigid Arkansas Spring) I think Arkansans are wired to want to go to the beach for spring break.. I know I always want to be at the beach all the time but particularly around Spring Break.. because being in the adult world we aren’t allotted an actual “Spring Break” But, it’d be cool if we were.

In Arkansas most people go south for spring break. Beach people live here in Arkansas. We are equipped to deal with humidity. Our bodies are made to love the sun, our brains programmed to love the sand, and our souls crave the salt. It is what it is. There’s no way around it. We love the beach. And, granted, maybe I’m just talking about myself and if thats the case and you hate the beach.. I have plenty of other posts you can read that don’t involve my love for the ocean.

I’ve packed for the beach a million times. I wish I was packing for the beach now! But, in my experience heres a list of the things you actually need when you go to the beach!

In your Travel Bag

Spring BreakBackpack | Swimsuit | Dry Shampoo | Sunnies |

I love to carry a backpack when I travel.. That way everything is easy to get to AND its super easy to carry. When its time to unload I don’t have my hands full trying to carry my travel bag ( Carry On if you will ) and suitcase along with everything else..

  1. Purse

Usually, when I travel this acts as my purse and I put my actual vacation purse in my suitcase so That’s one less bag I have to carry.

  2. Makeup Necessities

Just the necessities.. Foundation, Mascara, and Blush. Just in Case. If it fits in my 5 minute morning routine it fits in my travel bag.

  3. iPad

Because no one travels without them anymore

  4. Swimsuit

If I’m flying the swimsuit goes in my travel bag.. Just in case my luggage gets lost, I’ll at least have that!

  5. Headphones

    I cannot travel without headphones

  6. Dry Shampoo

Because I don’t go anywhere without it!

In your Beach Bag..

Which BTW: Should be a cute one..

Spring Break

Swimsuit Top // Bottom | Hat | Sandals | Cover Up | Graphic Tee |
Shorts | Sunnies | “Lynlee” Cup | Beach Blanket | Notebooks |

  1. Swimsuit

I mean, hello! If you’re going to the beach and you were to only take one thing this would be the one thing you should take.  Luckily thats not the case. Everything else is optional but a swimsuit is nonnegotiable. I love Giani Bini Swimsuit from Dillards. These bottoms are GB Highwaisted Bottoms. This top is from target and I’ve had some good luck at Target.

  2. Towel

To lay on.. to dry off.. You must take a towel. This fell under the obvious category for a reason..

  3. Hat + Headband

Your hair in your face.. or sunburnt face & Ears.. Nothing is more annoying than your face getting burn on day one. Put on a hat and put on your sunscreen.  See number 6. Also, this hat is from one of my moms friend’s embroidery company; A Blessed Mess. I linked her Facebook page under the picture or check it out –> Here

  4. Sandals

Because sand and ANY OTHER shoe don’t mix. I love these birkenstocks they’re comfy and easy to walk long distances in.

  5. Cover up

If you do end up burn sitting in the sun knowing your just adding to your burn is the worst. There have been trips that after I burnt I would still want to enjoy the beach life. Insert Cover up here. This tie dyed cover up dress is adorable over any swimsuit. it’s lightweight and flowy and will dry so quickly! I also love the columbia PFGs because they dry quickly and they aren’t hot at all! Plus, how cute are they with your monogram? So cute! Also, I love the free people trapeze dresses over my swimsuit.. they dry quickly and are comfy!

  6. Sunscreen

For your body and your face.. Wrinkles are real. Sunburns are miserable. Put on the Sunscreen.

  7. Floaty

I’ve got a Pizza Slice, Its oh, so fun and its so fun in the water!

  8. Denim Shorts + Cute Graphic Tee

Just a good basic outfit. Plus super nice to pull on after a day at the beach. This is the Spring Break Uniform.. and Lets talk about how cute this Preach Muscle Tee is! You can get it at Yaya’s!

  9. Sunnies

Do I need to elaborate? Plus, These are TOO cute!

  10. Speaker + Headphones

Let’s just make the beach more enjoyable by adding some tunes..

  11. S’well Bottle

We cannot be getting dehydrated while in the sun and on vacation. Grab you a bottle or cup that’ll keep your drinks cold through the whole day of sun bathing. I love my swell bottle. It’s great for the beach because it has a screw top. You won’t have to worry about getting sand into your drink and your beverage will stay cold for hours!

  12. Lifeproof Nud Case
Nothing worse than being somewhere far from home and ruining your phone. A waterproof case is almost as necessary as a swimsuit. This Nud Case is so slim and easy to handle. I love it!
  13. Chapstick

My lips get so chapped when I’m beach side. I always take chapstick with me. Also, there are few things more painful than sunburnt lips.

  14. Magazines, Good Book, iPad

Oceanside entertainment. One can only lay still getting a tan so long before they need to do something.

  15. Beach Blanket

A towel is such a small space to put all your stuff if you’re like me and don’t want sand in EVERYTHING. A beach Blanket allows you to kind of stretch out and have extra space to put your stuff.

  16. Snacks + Drinks

I’m a snacker! Sour Patch Kids, Skittles, Cuties, Crystal Light Packets all get dropped into my bag as I’m running to the beach!

  17. Wallet // Wristlet

If you’re staying far away  from the beach you’re going to need to carry your dollars.. just in case. If you have a functional purse you can throw a wristlet from one bag to the next.

  18. Notebook

I just always carry notebooks with me everywhere. If a thought strikes or something I need to remember crosses my mind..

Fashion Items

Spring Break requires you to take multi-purpose outfits because of the weather! You have to be practical but keep in mind that we still want to look cute and springy. It’s crazy you can go from tanks to sweater in a matter of hours.. I love dresses in when I’m at the beach. You look cute and feel cute but you’re comfy! So comfy! I wish I was a reasonable packer but, I’m not. I pack everything except the kitchen sink. You never know what you might need.. Heres a list of some things you’ll definitely need!

Wardrobe Essentials
  1. Flowy, Lightweight Dress

If you’re burnt, its so horrible to have to wear jean shorts and a shirt. I love throwing on a flowy dress when I’m burnt. It helps avoid some of the pain.

  2. Sweater

This beautiful sweater is SOOO cozy and the color makes it transition into spring without a hitch! I’ll be rocking this with shorts as the seasons start changing. This sweat would be perfect  to wear walking along the beach at night or dinner out! Plus, one those chilly nights you’ll be grateful for something cute and warm!

  3. Jacket

The Weather during spring break is tricky! It may or may not be warm at your destination. I’ve been twice when it was too cold to even get in the water and the wind was blowing so hard you didn’t really want to be on the beach at all. Of course, we endured the cold and sat out there anyway. A Denim Jacket goes with almost everything and they’re not bulky to pack.

  4. Light Weight Pull over

A light weight pull over is a necessity. Any time I travel anywhere I pack a sweatshirt. Whether it be an over night trip or a vacation. It’s almost like a security blanket.. or Jacket.. See this Post –> Here.

  5. Comfy Denim Shirt

This is also great to throw on over your swimsuit but also great for sunburnt days too! Denim on denim or denim with colored jeans is always cute plus layering with denim is cake.

  6. Cute Jammies

If you’re staying with a group of people.. Jammies are always good to pack for the late nights or watching movies or lounging around.. or early morning breakfast before you get ready for a day in the sun!

  7. White Jeans + Blue Jeans + Blush Jeans

First of all, all three of these colors of jeans go with EVERYTHING. Secondly, they instantly brighten up any outfit. So, while you’re beaching and wanting to look bright and extra colorful.. Plus, all three of the shirts I put in there coordinate with all the jeans.

  8. Wedges + Closed Toed Shoes

Cute Healed Sandals or wedges are a must pack. These soft wedges are SOOO comfy! A pair of camel wedges are so easy to throw on with everything in your suitcase. I love camel because you can easily wear them with black or brown! You’re going to want wedges for dinner or night out. Then, of course, the closed toed shoes for nights it gets extra chilly, shopping or you’re walking a little more than usual. I adore these tennies. This style shoes can be worn with basically everything.. like everything else I love.

  1. Strapless Bra + Regular Bra

Dragging out all your tanks for the Spring weather you’ll be glad you packed a strapless bra AND if your shoulders are super burnt you may can get away with wearing a strapless bra to keep the pain away.

  2. Functional Purse

You’re going to need a bag that is multi functional. I hate packing multiple purses. Pick a purse that goes with all your outfits and is easy to shop with, wear to dinner etc.

  3. Simple Jewelry

In an attempt to not have to worry, costume jewelry is the way to go. Cheap Jewelry that you don’t have to worry about breaking, losing or ruining your vacation is the only thing I take. I love Walmart and Forever 21 for cute cheap jewelry. Also, Rue 21 has some super fashion piece that you won’t wear a lot but at the beach you can get away with everything so rock that wild jewelry!

Beauty Items

  1. Lotion

Your skin gets so dehydrated from the sun and the salt. It’s such a great feeling to put lotion on your dry skin after a day in the sun.

  2. Moisturizing Face Masks

This is just a fun one with a huge perk. Your skin is dehydrated and so your face isn’t getting skipped in that. Moisturizing Face Masks are great to put on at night to keep your face moisturized and avoid peeling and flaking!

  3. Shampoo, Conditioner, + Leave in Conditioner / UV Protectant

UV Protectant isn’t spoken about enough in my opinion. Especially if you have colored hair this is like a sunscreen for your hair. It keeps your color from fading and getting damaged from the sun!

  4. Detangling Comb // Wet Brush

After a day in the sun, sea, and wind you’re going to be grateful to have something to brush your hair out with!

  5. Waterproof Mascara + BB Cream

Along with the rest of your makeup bag don’t forget waterproof mascara. You don’t want to have black running down your face when you’re caught by an unexpected wave. And you may want a little coverage for your face but not wanting a whole face of makeup. Grab your BB Cream for a light coverage but still beach ready look!

  6. Glasses + Extra Contacts

I love taking my contacts out after a day at the beach. It feels so refreshing!

  7. Pony Tail Holders + Bobby Pins

You do not want to be caught at the beach with your hair down.

January Update & Thank you!

Thank You

First, and foremost, thank you to EVERYONE who stopped in to read what I have to say. I have been pleasantly surprised at how many of you read my blog! I didn’t know what to expect going into this. Putting yourself out there in this way can be extremely nerve racking. Honestly, I expected a small handful of people to actually listen to me ramble. So, thank you! Thank you so much for engaging, commenting, and sharing what I have had to say.

Beauty is a passion of mine. I love trying new things and sharing with people what I have learned. Being able to have an outlet to share what I love about things, what products were disappointing, and different ways to inspire you in your wardrobe is so much fun to me! Thank you for encouraging me to continue.

Blogging Learning Curve

I have learned SO much! Being a new blogger I went into this COMPLETELY blind. I had no idea what to expect. Even what I did expect was far from reality. Setting goals and planning was such a challenge!

I learned I feel awkward in front of a camera. I’m not a model, period. This is a huge discomfort for me. You would think of all the photos my mom took of me in my younger years I’d feel comfortable in front of a camera. I don’t. I’m like Ricky Bobby. I don’t know what to do with my hands. Modeling was not my calling.

Some thoughts that have gone through my head.. I don’t know what to do with my hands.. why am I making that ugly fave.. is my posture really that bad.. why do I look so angry..

There’s such a steep learning curve. I’ve felt so many emotions. Every emotion..  overwhelmed, frustrated, stressed, anxious, nervous, giddy, happy, content.

Hair – According to Lynlee

Fashion and makeup is easy for me to write about. The hair part, on the other hand, is hard!! It’s so hard for me to write about. Nate said it’s because I think too much into it. I’m still trying to figure out hair tutorials and more hair posts.

Thank you again!

I just wanted to stop in and thank you guys for baring with me through this journey.

Please continue to stick with me. I have big plans for February and further into 2017!

I’d really like to hear from you guys on things you’d like to read about. More high end makeup, fashion, hair tutorials.. please comment and let me know things YOU want to read about!

Thanks again! That doesn’t begin to cover the gratitude.
